Rising up to nearly 170 meters in height, the Makati Commerce Tower is a LEED Platinum certified high-rise office building located in the Philippines’ bustling capital city of Manila. StudioSZ was commissioned by both Woods Bagot and their client, Baring Private Equity Asia, to photograph and film this elegant new addition to the Makati skyline.

We set out to contextualize the new Makati Commerce Tower within its unique surroundings in downtown metropolitan Manila. A combination of aerial drone photos as well as carefully chosen eye level street views helped us achieve that goal. Additionally, the Woods Bagot designed office high-rise is the first LEED Platinum certified office tower in the Philippines, so capturing its many sustainable design features was also a must.

In addition to Manila’s unpredictable weather, one challenge we faced when shooting Makati Commerce tower was how to go about capturing aerial drone footage in a foreign land. While StudioSZ is a licensed drone pilot in China, sometimes the hassle of getting approval to fly the drone in another country takes more effort than it’s worth, and so we hire trusted certified drone pilots local to the area. We can then plan and guide them to capture exactly the photos we need.

StudioSZ came away from the Philippines with a beautiful set of photographs that aptly told the story of Makati Commerce Tower and its place in the capital city of Manila. Our set of architectural images helped our client and their project get shortlisted for the 2023 MIPIM Awards for the Best Office Project in Asia.
